Chidinma Lawanson: With Every Wave of Hand, a Newly Employed Youth

Chidinma Lawanson may not be a household name, but she's making an impact in her home country of Nigeria.

Lawanson is the head of the Mastercard Foundation, a philanthropic arm of the credit card company, and she's been doing her best to give back to her native country, the Guardian reports.

"The idea that my neighbor's child is my responsibility is an ideal that all Africans share but may not be able to implement," she says.

"Thus, she has climbed from being a simple expert in numbers and accounts to someone worthy of national recognition."

Lawanson, who was born in the UK and grew up in Australia, has a master's in economics from the London School of Economics and has worked in the finance industry for more than a decade, the Guardian notes.

She's also worked with the World Bank and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, among others.

"She is doing amazing things for Nigerian youths, leaving good seeds for the country's growth and development," says a profile in the Guardian.

"Thus, even now that the numbers of employment appear to be dismal, Lawanson and her efforts are helping to calm things down and present good prospects for youth employment and productivity," the profile
